PROTECTING PROTESTERS' RIGHTS
The recent death of Congressman John Lewis, a leader of the Voting Rights March across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, reminds us that fighting injustice through protests is not only a part of our nation’s current events, but also our history. This webinar will review the right to assembly and other state and federal constitutional protections and how police and other government officials can restrict those demonstration rights. Discussion will include counseling protesters before they demonstrate, a review of the charges that can be brought, and defense counsel’s legal strategies for handling protester arrests, counter protest matters, and issues of hate speech.
This webinar is approved for ONE SUBSTANTIVE, PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE CREDIT HOUR by the Pennsylvania CLE Board. PACDL is an accredited distance learning provider in Pennsylvania.
