The Education Committee supports PACDL members by offering high quality content through several instructional outlets for criminal defense lawyers. The Committee is tasked with the management of the PACDL’s continuing legal education programs, identifying the educational needs of criminal defense attorneys and fostering educational excellence across all channels.
The Committe strives to create legal education programs to: 1) inform the criminal defense bar's professional knowledge through a variety of virtual and physical experiences that are positively memorable, customized to criminal defense practioners' business needs, and responsive to generational preferences; 2) build a body of knowledge through user-generated forums, website resources, brief banks or blogs, 3) identify the core competencies required for emerging lawyers in order to deliver peer-supported mentoring, social networking, leadership development, and contribute to new lawyers' positive career develoment; and 4) satisfy the requirements as an accredited continuing legal education provider by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board.
Each CLE is led by a small group of practitioners who identify relevant and timely topics, identify the learning objectives, and suggest high caliber speakers. They also lead in marketing the seminar and ensuring its success.
The Education Committee is co-chaired by Philip Gelso and Ellen Brotman.
